Coffee and Hawaii-- I'd like to think the best pair. (I'd also like to think we grow the best coffee).
For my Personal Identity & Branding class in Spring, 2021, we were asked to make a brand-- it could be anything we chose, anything we could do, if money weren't an obstacle.
Some created coffee, others had subscription boxes, drinks.
I knew what I wanted to do; had daydreamed about creating this after retirement, grown out of my love for anime, games, and the focus cafés supplied me in times of midterms and finals projects.
I chose to create a faux-manga café and PC gaming centre based in Honolulu, Oahu. People could have a quick drink at the café, or stay for a couple of hours and read away, or just game the night away!
This was what I wanted to convey in my initial (top) poster set; the variety of things to do, when you could do it, all wrapped up in an illustrative style that would capture the attention of the younger demographic interested in these activities.
We were then asked to change up the brand. Change the demographic and the artifact (poster) set. Most changed the age they appealed to (from younger people to older people). I created a franchise and moved the location from Oahu to the Big Island, Hawai'i. I wanted to showcase the spots where a bite from MN-H would best complement the scenery. Still keeping with the hand-drawn feeling, but focusing on the type to give it almost a postcard feel. "Wish you were here!"
